Like
every other parent, you want the very best for your
child. We are no different. Our son, Dillon, isn’t like
a lot of other children. Dillon has a short stature.
He is also timid and very cautious. We knew that about
him early on… He doesn’t adjust to change well and he
doesn’t enter into new situations well. We knew that we
needed to find an activity that would help him with some
of those things.
Dillon expressed his desire to take karate. One day he
came home from school with a flyer advertising a karate
program available at Ott’s Family Karate. We researched
this school as well as other karate schools. Ott’s
Family Karate School seemed best to us and it was just
what we were looking for.
We
made an appointment to set up a tour and get more
information. We met Cliff (aka Master Ott). He is one
of the most down to earth people we’ve met. Dillon
really wanted to be in karate and to attend this school.
We wanted to give him that chance. We signed him up and
he attended the orientation class. Dillon has found his
niche.
Fast
forward approx. 5 months….Dillon has gained so much
pride, discipline & confidence. It’s like a whole
transformation in such a positive way. He practices
daily and looks forward to the next class. Dillon has
achieved his purple belt & has scored the highest out of
8 students. He also received a reward for best form.
Dillon prides himself on his form. We are truly thankful
and grateful to Ott’s Family Karate and to Master Ott.
It’s
the best decision we ever made for our son. The
challenges are there, but so are the rewards if you work
for it.

A
year ago my then-9-year-old daughter decided she wanted
to try karate. We tried another school, where she was
placed in a class with children of all levels. The
class was chaotic, and the students were disrespectful
with their instructors. The master was not always
present at practice, and some of the instructors spoke
harshly to the kids. I was disappointed at this initial
experience, and after our trial period expired, we left
the school.
Then I discovered that Master Ott was opening his own
karate school. I enrolled both of my daughters
immediately, and I enrolled my son a month later. I
have never been disappointed. Master Ott places his
students in classes according to their skill level and
maturity, so he is able to help them perfect their
skills without the pressure of keeping up with advanced
kids. He is very concerned with teaching his students
the correct way to do kicks, punches, and forms. He
also demands respect and obedience from his pupils.
Amazingly, in 8 months I have never heard him lose his
temper or raise his voice with them.
Perhaps what I most appreciate about Master Ott is his
character. I believe a coach of any type should be a
good role model for his students and encourage both
their physical development within the sport and their
personal development. Master Ott is strongly committed
to following Jesus Christ. He also desires to grow the
character of my children. He readily praises
improvement in his students’ performance, but he also
demands their attention and their obedience. Regardless
of how my children progress in karate, I know they will
learn life lessons from Master Ott’s school that they
will carry with them forever.
